Day 1 on Proxima b

Description

The Tuomi probe's findings on day 1 were all in the upper atmosphere on the dark side of the planet, so they were mostly wind-dispersed seeds. However, one appeared to be a completely airborne metaphyte, which are the equivalent of plants on Proxima b. These use the slow convection currents in Proxima b's atmosphere to disperse themselves all over the planet. The probe caught one in its microscope and examined their cell structure, finding a type of reproductive cell that can exchange DNA with cells from other metaphytes that it touches. They reproduce asexually through these cells, which produce smaller copies of themselves and absorb them. When the reproductive cell is full, it bursts and the cells inside form new plants. They have many Golgi bodies, which are shaped like soccer balls. All cells have waste tubes, which make it easier for lysomes to get rid of waste. Another unique organelle is the chemoplast, which uses sulfuric acid to make useful compounds from the otherwise useless ones. These metaphytes have a red pigment in their tissues that absorbs harmful radiation coming from Proxima Centauri, and they use green pigments underneath to photosynthesize. The cell diagram is only for reproductive cells on the middle of the branches, while all other types cells contain chloroplasts and no young cells inside them.
The plant itself has 20 branches, each with 5 feathery rays attached to them. These usually form a dodecahedron, though there are some different varieties. These balls are around 2 cm in diameter, with some reaching 10 cm. In the middle of the dodecahedron is a small ball that holds the metaphyte together and contains organs that help the immune system function well.
