Sunset on Proxima b

Description

In the habitable areas of Proxima b, Proxima Centauri always appears to be setting. It sits just above the horizon, making the sky orange by not producing any blue light. All of Proxima b's flora are adapted to this situation, with leaves that point not up but sideways. There are very few terrestrial animals, although some aquatic creatures can climb onto land for short periods. Plants usually grow only on one side of the hills, as little light ever reaches their dark sides. Some, however, live there, with the advantage of not having to deal with solar flares. These live on only reflected light, and are usually black to absorb as much light as possible. On the lighter side, the more advanced species can retract into tubes during solar flares. The rest are usually fluorescent or heavily pigmented to absorb or emit the radiation that hits them. Many of the pigmented species use the radiation to their advantage, essentially cooking the hard-to-digest nutrients inside of them using specialized organelles called thermoplasts. All of the wind-blown species use this strategy, as they need all of the nutrients they can get. Alpha Centauri A and B are both visible on the horizon, looking compressed because of the atmosphere's refraction.
