Barracuda Shrimp

Description

300 million years in the future, an extinction wipes out most of the vertebrates on Earth. While some fish survived, it was crustaceans that filled their niche. This species, the barracuda shrimp, lives 350 million years in the future, long after life has recovered. With four jaws, the top 2 being modified antennae and the bottom ones being modified claws, this species hunts other crustaceans. To swim slowly, they use their pleopods. For quick bursts of swimming, their tail and bottom uropods are used. Their vision is limited compared to their mantis shrimp ancestors. This species reaches 50 cm in length, swimming in shoals of about 200 individuals.
